What Is Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools?

Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools is a traditional Chinese herbal formula designed to support healthy digestion, normal stool color, liver and gallbladder function, gastrointestinal health, intestinal balance, and overall digestive wellness in dogs and cats.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), green-tinted stools are often associated with an imbalance involving the Liver, Gallbladder, Stomach, and Spleen. When these digestive systems become disrupted, food may move too quickly through the intestines, bile may not be properly processed, and digestive function may become weakened. Pets may experience green-colored stools along with abdominal discomfort, gurgling intestines, irregular bowel movements, restlessness, irritability, or signs of digestive imbalance.

Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools is based on traditional Chinese herbal principles and contains carefully selected herbs traditionally used to support healthy Stomach, Spleen, Liver, and Gallbladder function, promote healthy digestion, encourage normal bile metabolism, support the body's natural detoxification processes, and restore digestive harmony. This herbal blend is commonly chosen by pet owners seeking natural support for green stools, digestive upset, intestinal imbalance, and long-term gastrointestinal health.*

Benefits of Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools

Support Healthy Digestive Balance*

Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools is traditionally used to support healthy digestion and normal stool appearance by addressing internal patterns associated with green or greenish stools. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), healthy bowel movements reflect the proper balance of Qi, digestion, and organ function.

Promote Healthy Liver Qi Movement*

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the smooth circulation of Liver Qi plays an important role in healthy digestion. Emotional stress, nervousness, or internal stagnation may disrupt digestive function and contribute to rapid intestinal transit, resulting in green-tinted stools. This formula is traditionally used to support the healthy movement of Liver Qi and digestive harmony.

Support Healthy Gallbladder Function*

The Liver and Gallbladder work together in Traditional Chinese Medicine to regulate the smooth flow of bile and digestion. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy Liver and Gallbladder balance, helping maintain normal digestive processes and healthy stool color.

Help Reduce Damp-Heat Accumulation*

Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes Damp-Heat as a common pattern that may contribute to digestive discomfort, loose stools, and abnormal stool color. This formula is traditionally used to help clear Damp-Heat and support a balanced digestive environment.

Support Healthy Intestinal Function*

Rapid intestinal transit may prevent the normal breakdown of bile pigments, resulting in green or greenish stools. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy intestinal function, allowing food to be processed more efficiently while promoting normal bowel movements.

Promote Healthy Digestion and Nutrient Processing*

Healthy digestion depends on the proper transformation and transportation of food and fluids. This formula is traditionally used to support digestive efficiency, promote healthy nutrient utilization, and maintain balanced gastrointestinal function.

Encourage Smooth Circulation of Qi Throughout the Digestive System*

The smooth movement of Qi is essential for comfortable digestion and healthy bowel function. This formula is traditionally used to support proper Qi circulation throughout the digestive tract while helping maintain digestive balance.

Support Comfortable Digestion*

Occasional abdominal gurgling, mild bloating, or digestive uneasiness may accompany green-tinted stools. This formula is traditionally used to support comfortable digestion and overall gastrointestinal wellness.

Maintain Healthy Stool Appearance*

Traditional Chinese herbal formulas are often used to support normal stool consistency, healthy bowel function, and balanced digestion. This formula is traditionally used to help maintain healthy stool appearance as internal balance is gradually restored.

Individual results may vary. Improvement occurs gradually as internal balance is restored.

Common Signs Your Pet May Need Support for Green Tinted Stools

This formula is most appropriate for Traditional Chinese Medicine patterns associated with Liver Qi stagnation, Damp-Heat affecting the digestive system, rapid intestinal transit, and digestive imbalance. Every pet is unique and may experience different symptoms, including:

Green or Greenish-Brown Stools

Stools may appear green, dark green, or greenish-brown rather than the typical brown color. This may occur occasionally or repeatedly and can vary depending on digestion, bile flow, and dietary influences.

Loose or Soft Stool Consistency

Bowel movements may become softer than normal or occasionally loose while still maintaining some shape. Stool consistency may fluctuate from day to day.

Mild Abdominal Gurgling

Digestive sounds, rumbling, or gurgling noises from the abdomen may occur after eating or throughout the day as the digestive tract processes food.

Occasional Abdominal Discomfort

Some pets may appear mildly uncomfortable after meals, stretch frequently, or show temporary sensitivity around the abdomen associated with digestive imbalance.

Changes in Appetite

Appetite may vary from day to day. Some pets may eat less enthusiastically during periods of digestive imbalance before gradually returning to normal eating habits.

Erratic Bowel Movements

Bowel habits may become less predictable, with occasional changes in stool consistency, frequency, or timing that accompany digestive imbalance.

Mild Irritability or Restlessness

Digestive discomfort may contribute to temporary restlessness, pacing, difficulty settling down, or mild behavioral changes in some pets.

Digestive Sensitivity After Dietary Changes

Green-tinted stools may develop following sudden food changes, rich treats, excessive leafy vegetables, or dietary indiscretions while the digestive system adjusts.

Rapid Intestinal Transit

Food may move through the digestive tract more quickly than normal, limiting the complete breakdown of bile pigments and contributing to green stool coloration according to Traditional Chinese Medicine digestive patterns.

Liver Qi Imbalance Affecting Digestion

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, emotional stress or disruption of Liver Qi may interfere with the smooth movement of digestion, contributing to green stools, digestive irregularity, and temporary gastrointestinal discomfort.

Damp-Heat Affecting the Digestive Tract

Traditional Chinese Medicine associates Damp-Heat with digestive imbalance that may contribute to stool color changes, occasional digestive discomfort, loose stools, and abnormal bowel function.

Overall Digestive Imbalance

Green-tinted stools often reflect an underlying digestive imbalance rather than an isolated bowel change. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy digestion, promote internal balance, and maintain normal stool appearance over time.

Pets experiencing more persistent, recurring, or long-standing digestive imbalance may benefit from combining this formula with additional herbal support to address underlying Traditional Chinese Medicine patterns and promote long-term digestive wellness.

Diet and Prevention for Green Tinted Stools

Supporting Healthy Liver and Digestive Function According to Traditional Chinese Medicine

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, green tinted stools are commonly associated with Liver Qi stagnation, excess Heat affecting the Liver and Gallbladder, or impaired digestive function. Emotional stress, sudden dietary changes, rich foods, or digestive imbalance may disrupt the smooth flow of Liver Qi, affecting bile secretion and intestinal function. This may contribute to green-colored stools, abdominal discomfort, gurgling intestines, mild irritability, and irregular bowel movements.

Proper nutrition, consistent feeding schedules, stress reduction, and easily digested foods help support healthy Liver function, digestive balance, and long-term gastrointestinal wellness.

For Best Results

  • Feed meals at consistent times each day to support healthy digestion and Liver Qi flow.
  • Prioritize freshly cooked meals over raw, refrigerated, or highly processed foods.
  • Avoid sudden diet changes and introduce new foods gradually.
  • Provide clean, fresh water at all times to maintain hydration.
  • Bone broth may be added to meals to support hydration and encourage healthy digestion.
  • Avoid feeding immediately before vigorous exercise or periods of excitement.
  • Feed smaller, more frequent meals if your pet has a sensitive digestive system.
  • Help minimize stress and anxiety, as emotional tension may contribute to digestive imbalance.
  • Monitor stool color, consistency, and bowel habits as digestive health improves.

Dietary Recommendations

Lean Protein (70%)

Cooked pork tenderloin, duck, or white fish provide easily digestible protein that traditionally supports healthy Liver and Gallbladder function while remaining gentle on the digestive system.

A Proven, Research-Backed Pet Digestive Support Formula for Green Tinted Stools

Modern research on traditional herbs commonly used in digestive support formulas, particularly Dandelion Root (Pu Gong Ying), Tangerine Peel (Chen Pi), Thorowax Root (Chai Hu), Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin), Poria (Fu Ling), and Perilla Leaf (Zi Su Ye), has explored their antioxidant activity, digestive support, liver and bile function, immune regulation, inflammatory pathway modulation, and healthy gastrointestinal balance. These herbs have been widely studied for their bioactive compounds and their traditional roles in supporting healthy digestion, maintaining normal intestinal function, and promoting digestive comfort.

Research published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Frontiers in Pharmacology, and the International Journal of Molecular Sciences has investigated the biological activities of these traditional herbs, including baicalin from Scutellaria Root, saikosaponins from Thorowax Root, flavonoids from Tangerine Peel, triterpenoids from Poria, and naturally occurring phenolic compounds found in Dandelion Root and Perilla Leaf. These studies have explored their antioxidant, digestive-supporting, liver-supporting, and gastrointestinal wellness properties.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, healthy digestion depends on the proper balance of the Liver, Gallbladder, Spleen, and Stomach. Green tinted stools are traditionally associated with Liver and Gallbladder disharmony, disruption of smooth Qi movement, and imbalance affecting digestion and bile flow. When these systems remain balanced, digestion is traditionally believed to support healthy bowel movements, intestinal comfort, and overall digestive wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools used for?

Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools is traditionally used in Chinese herbal practice to support healthy digestion, normal bowel movements, and balanced Liver, Gallbladder, and digestive function. It is commonly used for pets experiencing green tinted stools, mild irritability or restlessness, abdominal discomfort, gurgling intestines, erratic bowel movements, digestive upset, and occasional stool color changes associated with digestive imbalance.

How does Traditional Chinese Medicine view green tinted stools?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), green tinted stools are often associated with Liver Qi stagnation, Damp-Heat affecting the Liver and Gallbladder, or disharmony between the Liver and Spleen. When these organ systems become imbalanced, digestion may become irregular, leading to abnormal stool color, intestinal discomfort, bloating, and inconsistent bowel movements.

What is Liver Qi Stagnation in Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Liver Qi Stagnation occurs when the normal flow of Qi becomes restricted. In pets, this pattern may contribute to digestive upset, abdominal discomfort, intestinal gurgling, erratic bowel movements, mild irritability, stress-related digestive disturbances, and changes in stool appearance, including green tinted stools.

Who may benefit from Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools?

Dogs and cats experiencing green tinted stools, digestive upset, intestinal discomfort, noisy intestines, mild abdominal pain, inconsistent bowel movements, stress-related digestive issues, or occasional loose stools may benefit from this traditional herbal formula as part of their digestive wellness routine.

Can this formula help support digestive balance?

Traditional Chinese herbal formulas have long been used to support normal digestive function and maintain balance within the gastrointestinal system. This formula is commonly chosen to help support healthy digestion, proper stool formation, comfortable intestinal function, and overall digestive wellness.

Why might my pet have green tinted stools?

Green tinted stools may occur when food moves too quickly through the digestive tract, when bile pigments are not fully broken down, after dietary changes, or when digestive imbalance affects normal intestinal function. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, green stools may also reflect Liver and Gallbladder disharmony combined with digestive imbalance.

Can stress affect my pet's digestion?

Yes. Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes that emotional stress, anxiety, environmental changes, travel, or routine disruptions may affect Liver Qi, which in turn can influence digestive function. Some pets may develop abdominal discomfort, intestinal noises, irregular bowel movements, or changes in stool color during periods of stress.

Why is healthy digestion important for overall health?

Healthy digestion allows pets to properly absorb nutrients, maintain energy, support immune function, and eliminate waste efficiently. Traditional Chinese Medicine considers balanced digestive function essential for maintaining overall health and vitality.

Can green stools indicate Liver and Gallbladder imbalance?

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, green tinted stools may sometimes reflect imbalance involving the Liver and Gallbladder, particularly when accompanied by abdominal discomfort, irritability, digestive upset, or irregular bowel movements.

How long should my pet take Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools?

Every pet is different. Recovery depends on the underlying digestive imbalance, overall health, age, diet, stress levels, and consistency of use. Some pets improve during short-term digestive support, while others benefit from continued use to help restore long-term digestive balance. Long-term use is best determined by your veterinary herbal practitioner.

Can this formula be used year-round?

Many pets use this formula during periods of digestive imbalance, dietary transitions, stress, or occasional gastrointestinal upset. Others may benefit from longer-term support when maintaining healthy digestive function and bowel regularity according to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles.

What makes Silkie Herbs Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools different?

Silkie Herbs formulas are rooted in five generations of traditional herbal practice. Each formula is based on classical Traditional Chinese Medicine principles and uses carefully selected medicinal herbs. Our honey pills are prepared using traditional honey-bound methods, while our herbal powders contain only pure blended herbs with no unnecessary additives. We do not use artificial fillers, synthetic binders, preservatives, or unnecessary ingredients. Every batch is manufactured in the United States and undergoes rigorous quality testing to support consistency, purity, and authenticity.

Why does Traditional Chinese Medicine focus on the Liver and Spleen for digestive health?

Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches that the Liver helps regulate the smooth movement of Qi, while the Spleen transforms food into usable nutrients and energy. When these systems work together harmoniously, digestion, nutrient absorption, and bowel movements remain balanced. Imbalances between these organs may contribute to digestive upset and abnormal stool appearance.

Can digestive imbalance affect stool color?

Yes. Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes that digestive imbalance may influence stool color, consistency, odor, and frequency. Changes such as green tinted stools may provide clues about the body's internal patterns and help guide herbal support.

Can my pet take this formula daily?

Many pets take Pet Formula for Green Tinted Stools daily during periods of digestive imbalance. Consistent use is often preferred when supporting digestive health, intestinal comfort, normal bowel movements, and long-term digestive balance according to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles.

What foods help support healthy digestion?

Many veterinary herbal practitioners recommend highly digestible diets that include quality protein, appropriate fiber, adequate hydration, and consistent meal schedules. Traditional Chinese Medicine often favors freshly prepared, easily digested foods that help support healthy Spleen and Stomach function while avoiding foods that may contribute to Dampness or digestive irritation.

Why are Silkie Herbs honey pills made using traditional honey-bound preparation?

Silkie Herbs honey-bound herbal pills are prepared using pure honey as the natural binding agent, following traditional Chinese herbal preparation methods used for centuries. Honey helps eliminate the need for many artificial fillers, synthetic binders, lubricants, and unnecessary additives commonly found in modern supplements. For pets requiring greater dosing flexibility or without honey, the same formula is also available as a pure herbal powder.

Are Silkie Herbs formulas third-party tested?

Yes. Silkie Herbs performs testing throughout the production process, from raw herb verification to finished product testing. This includes screening for identity, purity, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contaminants to help ensure quality and consistency.

Where are Silkie Herbs products made?

Silkie Herbs formulas are blended, manufactured, and packaged in the United States while following traditional Chinese herbal preparation methods and strict quality standards.

What makes traditional Chinese herbal formulas different from single-herb supplements?

Traditional Chinese herbal formulas combine multiple herbs that work together according to classical Traditional Chinese Medicine principles. Rather than relying on one ingredient, each herb serves a unique role within the formula to promote balance, harmony, healthy digestion, and overall wellness.

Why does Silkie Herbs use traditional herbal preparation methods?

Many herbs are traditionally processed using methods known as Pao Zhi (炮製), including roasting, steaming, honey-frying, wine-frying, fermenting, or aging. These preparation techniques have been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine to refine the properties of herbs and support their traditional functions, allowing each formula to work as intended according to classical herbal principles.

100% Natural

Our herbal supplements are made with natural honey as the binder. Honey can support the lungs, intestine, spleen, and stomach; It works as a natural preservative with antibacterial and healing properties. Unlike other herbal supplement companies that use starch, magnesium, and other chemical substances as binders for their supplements, we only use 100% honey. We also avoid using vegetable capsules because they require chemical components to form the capsule shape.

Peak Harvest Herbs

The herbs in our herbal pill blends are harvested at the height of their potency and they are substantially more expensive than less potent herbs that were harvested in the pre-or post-season, but in our view, there is no substitute for premium quality.

Ann's Story

Here's my story.

If you feel skeptical or unsure of Chinese herbal remedies, I could hardly blame you. I wasn't a believer either until my daughter grew very sick and my father (the 4th generation herbalist) helped her get better with herbs.

I was born into a family of herbalists. My father, my grandfather, my great-grandfather, great-great grandfather were all herbalists. I represent the 5th generation in this long lineage dating back to Imperial China.

When I was three or four years old, I started to learn herbal songs and how to identify herbs. As I got older, I was taught how to process the herbs while working in my dad’s clinic in Vietnam. After we immigrated to the United States, my dad asked me if I wanted to pursue a career in TCM as an herbalist or acupuncturist. I said, “No, just leave me alone, Dad. I will find something I enjoy doing for work.” So, he left me alone to find my own way.

I wanted nothing to do with herbal medicine until I gave birth to my second daughter, Catherine, who was born with severe gastric reflux. When Catherine was 10 days old, I had to take her to the ER for IV injections into her little hand because she couldn’t keep milk down. Besides vomiting, she also was having diarrhea. Catherine was losing nutrition from both ends, so her tiny body was shrinking. At that time my dad warned me, “She needs to be treated with herbal medicine, otherwise she will have seizures later on.” I didn’t fully understand what my dad was talking about, so I ignored him.

My daughter got so ill that she could only take half an ounce of milk per hour. Before feeding her, I would use a syringe and shoot Zantac into her mouth to lessen the vomiting. As time passed, she needed milk more often, and consequently more Zantac. By the time Catherine was 8 months old, she needed to be fed and medicated 11 times a day.

I could hardly sleep, eat, shower or rest. Even at night, I had to drape my daughter over my shoulder for her to sleep. If I put Catherine down, she would vomit. I barely had time to squeeze in a 5-minute shower once or twice a week for myself. I was exhausted, but what could I do? I had to care for my daughter and do my best to survive each day with the hope that she would get better or at the very least her condition would not worsen.

Catherine had to wear a turtleneck with two sweaters along with a baby cap and scarf to be outside during the heat of summer, even when temperatures were 100 plus degrees. If I didn’t cover her up, she would have a runny nose, cough, and non stop vomiting. How will she be able to go to school or anywhere with air conditioning?

One day we went to a Vietnamese pho restaurant. After I set Catherine down into the high-chair, I turned around and adjusted my chair. Then I heard a woman’s shout, “Look at her!” I looked in the direction she pointed. It was Catherine…her eyes rolled up and her entire body stiff and shaking with fluid coming out of her mouth. Someone said, “Squeeze some lemon into her mouth.” I did it without hesitating and Catherine’s body relaxed.

We rushed her to the ER. For 3 days she was in the NICU where they monitored her brain. The doctors told me I was lucky because my daughter’s seizure didn’t last for more than 3 minutes which would have damaged her brain. After that I always carried a piece of lemon because I had no idea when my baby girl might have another seizure.

The seizures started to come weekly, so the doctor prescribed anti-seizure medication. Catherine wasn’t even 1 year of age, and already she was taking Zantac 11 times plus anti-seizure medicine 3 times a day. It was nearly impossible to administer the anti-seizure medicine because whenever I took out the syringe, she would cry and start vomiting.

I took Catherine to see a specialist at CHOC. I asked, “Doctor, have you ever seen any infant with this condition get well?” The doctor replied, “It depends. Some will grow out of it, but some don’t. If they don’t, then they will have to take medication for the rest of their life.”

“What do you mean by grow out of it?” The doctor explained that Catherine might get better by herself as she got older.

My mind was racing. “All this time the prescribed medication has not been treating her stomach?” The doctor said, “No, it only helps to guide the food down, so she won’t vomit it back up. That’s why you have to give it to her before the feeding.”

“Well, what if she doesn’t grow out of it?” In that case, Catherine will be dependent upon medication for the rest of her life. The doctor further informed me that she too was born with gastro reflux and is still taking medicine for the condition.

Her statement was like lightning in my brain. If the doctor can’t even treat herself for gastro reflux, how can she help my daughter? Seeing the futility of my path, I turned to my dad for help.

My dad advised me to stop all western drugs and to give her an herbal prescription 3 times a day. Administering medicine 3 times instead of 14 times a day to Catherine was a godsend to me. Even though it sounded too good to be true, I figured that I could still give Zantac to Catherine if she didn’t get better or continued to vomit.

After one month of herbs 3 times a day, Catherine vomited less and less. To test Catherine, I let her cry to see if she would vomit. She didn’t, so I knew she was getting better. After another month of herbal medicine, Catherine was able to wear less clothing without getting a runny nose, coughing, or vomiting. After 3 months of herbal formulas, she stopped having episodes of gastro reflux and seizure. Catherine will enjoy a normal, healthy life.

Because of Catherine’s dramatic recovery, I was sold on Chinese medicine and asked my dad to treat me. I fainted very easily, especially during the winter. After a few months of herbal formulas, I have never fainted again.

I started to have time to think and tried to understand why a piece of lemon helps to relax the muscles and stop a seizure. Lemon is a common citrus, yet it has magical powers that we don’t understand and underestimate. I wanted to learn more and find answers, so I decided to go to China which has a long history of herbal medicine. I went to TCM schools in China and Hong Kong and worked in the TCM hospitals to learn from the best herbal doctors in the world.

When I was there, I knew one day I would want to become an herbalist, but how can I get a steady supply of high-quality herbs. My dad and I backpacked across China and visited many farmlands. We interviewed farmers to grow herbs for us. Our products are used with the highest quality herbs that have been harvested at the height of their potency. They are substantially more expensive than less potent herbs that were harvested in the pre- or post-season.

After I came back to the United State, I worked with my dad and learned from his experiences and studied the formulas that our ancestors passed down. What I have been through helped me to understand the importance of health. Without health, don’t even talk about career, beauty, education, freedom, etc. I now have worked with many families who have suffered as I have. Their endearing appreciation drives me to work harder.

Our namesake "Silkie" is a Chinese breed of chicken that is well known for its calm and friendly temperament. They are gentle and caring and make wonderful mothers. A Silkie loves nothing more than brooding a cluster of eggs, whether they are hers or not, even if they are "duck eggs". We share the same outlook and care for our clients the same way we care for our own family.
