What Is Pet Formula For After Surgery or Injured?

Pet Formula For After Surgery or Injured is a traditional Chinese herbal formula designed to support post-surgery recovery, injury recovery, healthy circulation, tissue repair, digestive health, and your pet's overall healing process following physical trauma.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), injuries and surgery are often associated with Blood Stagnation (Blood Stasis), Qi stagnation, swelling, and disruption of the body's normal circulation. When Blood and Qi cannot move freely, healing may slow, resulting in fatigue, bruising, swelling, stiffness, discomfort, poor appetite, digestive upset, and delayed recovery.

This herbal blend is traditionally used to support healthy circulation of Qi and Blood, promote the body's natural healing response, encourage healthy tissue repair, reduce stagnation, support normal inflammatory balance, and strengthen digestive function during recovery. By supporting both circulation and digestion, the body is better able to transform food into Qi and Blood, providing the nourishment needed for healthy recovery and long-term vitality.

Pet Formula For After Surgery or Injured is commonly chosen by pet owners seeking natural support for recovery following surgery, sprains, strains, bruises, ligament and tendon injuries, fractures, muscle soreness, soft tissue injuries, fatigue during recovery, mild swelling or discomfort, and occasional digestive upset after physical trauma.*

Common Signs of Injury Recovery Imbalance in Traditional Chinese Medicine

  • Fatigue or reduced energy after surgery or injury
  • Mild swelling or localized puffiness
  • Bruising or discoloration
  • Stiffness or reduced mobility
  • Mild discomfort during recovery
  • Slow tissue recovery
  • Sprains or strains
  • Tendon or ligament injuries
  • Bone or soft tissue injuries
  • Poor appetite during recovery
  • Occasional digestive upset
  • Low vitality after physical trauma
  • Reduced activity levels
  • General weakness during healing

Suggested Combination for Faster Recovery and Long-Term Healing

For pets recovering from surgery, injuries, bruising, soft tissue trauma, fatigue, digestive weakness, or prolonged recovery, Pet Formula For After Surgery or Injured is commonly paired with Pet Immune Support, Pet Spleen Support, and Pet Blood & Stamina Support to provide more complete recovery based on each pet's Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pattern.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, proper healing depends on the smooth circulation of Qi and Blood, healthy digestion, and sufficient energy reserves. While Pet Formula For After Surgery or Injured is traditionally used to support healthy circulation, reduce Blood Stagnation, promote tissue repair, and assist the body's natural healing process, additional formulas may help strengthen the underlying systems responsible for long-term recovery.

Pet Formula For Immune Support is traditionally used to help maintain healthy immune function during recovery, strengthen defensive Qi (Wei Qi), and support overall vitality while the body heals from surgery or injury.

Pet Formula For Spleen Support is traditionally recommended when poor appetite, digestive weakness, occasional loose stools, bloating, reduced nutrient absorption, or fatigue develop after surgery or trauma. By strengthening the Spleen and Stomach, it helps pets efficiently transform food into Qi and Blood, providing the nourishment needed for healthy tissue repair and recovery.

If digestive upset or loose stools developed during recovery, many pets also benefit from transitioning back to Pet Firm Stool Formula once healing has progressed and digestive balance has stabilized. Supporting healthy digestion helps maintain proper nutrient absorption and overall long-term wellness.

Together, these formulas provide a comprehensive approach by promoting healthy circulation of Qi and Blood, strengthening digestion, supporting immune function, replenishing energy, nourishing Blood, encouraging healthy tissue repair, and helping pets recover comfortably while maintaining long-term vitality.*

Benefits of Pet Formula for After Surgery & Injury Support

Support Healthy Recovery After Surgery or Injury*

Pet Formula for After Surgery & Injury Support is a traditional Chinese herbal formula designed to support your pet's natural recovery following surgery, injury, physical trauma, or periods of healing. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, successful recovery depends on restoring the smooth circulation of Qi and Blood while supporting the body's natural repair processes.

Support the Healthy Circulation of Qi and Blood*

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the smooth movement of Qi and Blood is essential for proper healing. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy circulation, helping maintain the body's natural recovery process following surgery, wounds, strains, or physical trauma.

Support Healthy Tissue Repair*

Traditional Chinese herbal medicine has long emphasized supporting the body's natural ability to repair tissues after physical stress. This formula is traditionally used to promote healthy tissue recovery and encourage the body's normal healing process.

Help Maintain Healthy Energy During Recovery*

Physical trauma, surgery, or injury may temporarily reduce your pet's energy and vitality. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy Qi, helping maintain normal energy levels and overall vitality during recovery.

Support Healthy Blood Nourishment*

Blood plays an important role in Traditional Chinese Medicine by nourishing muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, and connective tissues. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy Blood nourishment, helping maintain normal recovery and overall wellness.

Promote Healthy Movement and Comfort*

Following surgery or injury, pets may naturally become less active due to temporary discomfort or stiffness. This formula is traditionally used to support the healthy circulation of Qi and Blood, helping maintain comfortable movement and physical function throughout recovery.

Support Healthy Management of Temporary Swelling*

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, localized stagnation of Qi and Blood may contribute to temporary swelling following physical trauma or surgery. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy circulation and the body's natural resolution of temporary swelling.

Support Healthy Digestion During Recovery*

Recovery, anesthesia, medications, and physical stress may temporarily affect digestion and appetite. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy Spleen and Stomach function, promote digestion, and help maintain normal appetite during recovery.

Promote Overall Recovery and Resilience*

Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes that healing involves the entire body rather than a single area. This formula is traditionally used to support overall balance, promote resilience, and help pets regain normal strength, vitality, and wellness after surgery or injury.

Help Maintain Long-Term Wellness After Recovery*

As healing progresses, restoring internal balance remains an important part of long-term wellness. This formula is traditionally used to support ongoing vitality, healthy circulation, and overall well-being beyond the initial recovery period.

Individual results may vary. Improvement occurs gradually as internal balance is restored.

Common Signs Your Pet May Benefit from After Surgery & Injury Support

This formula is most appropriate for Traditional Chinese Medicine patterns associated with Qi and Blood Deficiency, Blood Stasis, localized stagnation, and temporary Dampness that may develop following surgery, injury, physical trauma, or prolonged recovery. Every pet is unique, and symptoms may vary, including:

Recovering After Surgery

Pets recovering from routine or major surgical procedures may experience reduced vitality, slower movement, temporary discomfort, or decreased enthusiasm while the body naturally heals.

Healing After Physical Injury

Following sprains, strains, falls, wounds, fractures, or other physical trauma, pets may benefit from additional support as the body restores healthy circulation and tissue recovery.

Fatigue or Reduced Energy

Some pets may seem more tired than usual, sleep longer, or show less interest in play, exercise, or normal daily activities while recovering.

Mild Swelling Around the Affected Area

Temporary swelling or puffiness around healing tissues may occur following surgery or injury. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this may reflect localized Qi and Blood stagnation during recovery.

Temporary Tenderness or Sensitivity

Pets may appear protective of an affected area or become less willing to jump, climb stairs, or engage in normal movement during healing.

Reduced Appetite During Recovery

Recovery, anesthesia, medications, or physical stress may temporarily affect appetite. Pets may eat less than usual while the digestive system gradually returns to normal.

Occasional Digestive Upset After Surgery

Temporary digestive sensitivity, softer stools, mild stomach discomfort, or reduced digestive function may occur following surgery or medication use.

Slower Recovery Than Expected

Some pets appear to regain strength more slowly following surgery or injury. Traditional Chinese Medicine associates prolonged recovery with deficiencies of Qi and Blood.

Reduced Stamina

Activities that were previously easy may become tiring during recovery. Pets may require additional rest before gradually returning to normal activity.

Muscle Weakness During Healing

Periods of reduced movement or prolonged rest may contribute to temporary weakness or decreased muscle tone while healing progresses.

Stiffness After Rest

Some pets may appear stiff when first standing after sleeping or resting, especially during the early stages of recovery.

Support Following Physical Stress

Pets recovering from strenuous activity, physical overexertion, or traumatic events may benefit from additional support to restore normal vitality and internal balance.

Maintaining Healthy Circulation During Recovery

Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes that healthy circulation of Qi and Blood supports the body's natural healing process and overall recovery after physical trauma.

Lack of Vitality

During recovery, some pets may appear less energetic, less playful, or less interested in daily activities than usual. Supporting healthy Qi and Blood may help promote overall vitality as healing progresses.

Pets experiencing more significant trauma, prolonged recovery, repeated injuries, or deeper patterns of Qi and Blood Deficiency may benefit from combining this formula with additional herbal support, such as Pet Blood & Stamina Support to nourish Qi and Blood, Pet Spleen Support to strengthen digestion and energy during recovery, or Pet Immune Support to help maintain overall wellness throughout the healing process.

Diet and Prevention for After Surgery & Injury Recovery

Supporting Healthy Healing According to Traditional Chinese Medicine

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, successful recovery depends on healthy Qi, adequate Blood nourishment, proper circulation, and strong digestive function. Surgery, injury, trauma, or prolonged illness may temporarily weaken Qi and Blood while creating localized Blood Stasis and swelling. Proper nutrition, adequate rest, hydration, and easily digested foods help support tissue repair, healthy circulation, energy production, and long-term recovery.

For Best Results

  • Feed meals at consistent times each day to support healthy digestion and recovery.
  • Prioritize warm, freshly prepared meals over raw, refrigerated, or frozen foods.
  • Provide adequate rest while gradually returning to normal activity as healing progresses.
  • Keep fresh, clean water available at all times to maintain hydration.
  • Bone broth may be added to meals to support hydration, encourage appetite, and provide additional nourishment.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise until your pet has recovered appropriately.
  • Feed smaller, more frequent meals if appetite has decreased after surgery or injury.
  • Monitor your pet's energy, appetite, mobility, and incision or injury site throughout recovery.

Dietary Recommendations

Cooked Vegetables (20%)

Pumpkin, carrots, cabbage, or other gently cooked vegetables provide vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber that support digestion, healthy immunity, and tissue repair.

White Rice (10%)

A highly digestible source of carbohydrates that provides gentle energy while supporting digestive comfort during recovery.

Boiled Chicken or Lean Pork (70%)

Lean proteins traditionally used to nourish Qi and Blood while supporting muscle maintenance, tissue repair, and post-surgical recovery.

Foods and Feeding Practices to Limit

  • Cold, raw, or refrigerated foods
  • Excessively fatty or greasy foods
  • Rich treats and table scraps

Frequently Asked Questions

What is After Surgery & Injury Support used for?

After Surgery & Injury Support is traditionally used in Chinese herbal practice to support your pet's natural recovery following surgery, injury, physical trauma, or periods of reduced vitality. It is commonly used for dogs and cats recovering from surgical procedures, wounds, soft tissue injuries, bruising, swelling, fatigue, reduced appetite, and general post-operative weakness.

How does Traditional Chinese Medicine view recovery after surgery or injury?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), surgery and physical trauma may temporarily weaken Qi and Blood while creating Blood Stasis and localized stagnation. When Blood and Qi do not circulate freely, healing may slow and pets may experience swelling, discomfort, fatigue, or reduced energy. Traditional herbal formulas are commonly used to support healthy circulation, nourish Qi and Blood, and promote the body's natural healing process.

What is Blood Stasis in Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Blood Stasis is a Traditional Chinese Medicine pattern in which Blood circulation becomes impaired following surgery, injury, trauma, or prolonged inflammation. Common signs may include swelling, bruising, discomfort, stiffness, delayed healing, reduced mobility, and lingering weakness after an injury.

Why is circulation important during recovery?

Healthy circulation helps deliver oxygen and nutrients throughout the body while supporting the removal of metabolic waste. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, proper circulation of Qi and Blood is considered essential for supporting healthy healing, reducing swelling, and restoring normal function after surgery or injury.

Why is energy important during recovery?

Recovery requires significant energy. Following surgery or injury, many pets experience temporary Qi Deficiency, which may appear as fatigue, weakness, reduced appetite, or decreased activity. Supporting Qi helps provide the energy needed for normal healing and recovery.

100% Natural

Our herbal supplements are made with natural honey as the binder. Honey can support the lungs, intestine, spleen, and stomach; It works as a natural preservative with antibacterial and healing properties. Unlike other herbal supplement companies that use starch, magnesium, and other chemical substances as binders for their supplements, we only use 100% honey. We also avoid using vegetable capsules because they require chemical components to form the capsule shape.

Peak Harvest Herbs

The herbs in our herbal pill blends are harvested at the height of their potency and they are substantially more expensive than less potent herbs that were harvested in the pre-or post-season, but in our view, there is no substitute for premium quality.

Ann's Story

Here's my story.

If you feel skeptical or unsure of Chinese herbal remedies, I could hardly blame you. I wasn't a believer either until my daughter grew very sick and my father (the 4th generation herbalist) helped her get better with herbs.

I was born into a family of herbalists. My father, my grandfather, my great-grandfather, great-great grandfather were all herbalists. I represent the 5th generation in this long lineage dating back to Imperial China.

When I was three or four years old, I started to learn herbal songs and how to identify herbs. As I got older, I was taught how to process the herbs while working in my dad’s clinic in Vietnam. After we immigrated to the United States, my dad asked me if I wanted to pursue a career in TCM as an herbalist or acupuncturist. I said, “No, just leave me alone, Dad. I will find something I enjoy doing for work.” So, he left me alone to find my own way.

I wanted nothing to do with herbal medicine until I gave birth to my second daughter, Catherine, who was born with severe gastric reflux. When Catherine was 10 days old, I had to take her to the ER for IV injections into her little hand because she couldn’t keep milk down. Besides vomiting, she also was having diarrhea. Catherine was losing nutrition from both ends, so her tiny body was shrinking. At that time my dad warned me, “She needs to be treated with herbal medicine, otherwise she will have seizures later on.” I didn’t fully understand what my dad was talking about, so I ignored him.

My daughter got so ill that she could only take half an ounce of milk per hour. Before feeding her, I would use a syringe and shoot Zantac into her mouth to lessen the vomiting. As time passed, she needed milk more often, and consequently more Zantac. By the time Catherine was 8 months old, she needed to be fed and medicated 11 times a day.

I could hardly sleep, eat, shower or rest. Even at night, I had to drape my daughter over my shoulder for her to sleep. If I put Catherine down, she would vomit. I barely had time to squeeze in a 5-minute shower once or twice a week for myself. I was exhausted, but what could I do? I had to care for my daughter and do my best to survive each day with the hope that she would get better or at the very least her condition would not worsen.

Catherine had to wear a turtleneck with two sweaters along with a baby cap and scarf to be outside during the heat of summer, even when temperatures were 100 plus degrees. If I didn’t cover her up, she would have a runny nose, cough, and non stop vomiting. How will she be able to go to school or anywhere with air conditioning?

One day we went to a Vietnamese pho restaurant. After I set Catherine down into the high-chair, I turned around and adjusted my chair. Then I heard a woman’s shout, “Look at her!” I looked in the direction she pointed. It was Catherine…her eyes rolled up and her entire body stiff and shaking with fluid coming out of her mouth. Someone said, “Squeeze some lemon into her mouth.” I did it without hesitating and Catherine’s body relaxed.

We rushed her to the ER. For 3 days she was in the NICU where they monitored her brain. The doctors told me I was lucky because my daughter’s seizure didn’t last for more than 3 minutes which would have damaged her brain. After that I always carried a piece of lemon because I had no idea when my baby girl might have another seizure.

The seizures started to come weekly, so the doctor prescribed anti-seizure medication. Catherine wasn’t even 1 year of age, and already she was taking Zantac 11 times plus anti-seizure medicine 3 times a day. It was nearly impossible to administer the anti-seizure medicine because whenever I took out the syringe, she would cry and start vomiting.

I took Catherine to see a specialist at CHOC. I asked, “Doctor, have you ever seen any infant with this condition get well?” The doctor replied, “It depends. Some will grow out of it, but some don’t. If they don’t, then they will have to take medication for the rest of their life.”

“What do you mean by grow out of it?” The doctor explained that Catherine might get better by herself as she got older.

My mind was racing. “All this time the prescribed medication has not been treating her stomach?” The doctor said, “No, it only helps to guide the food down, so she won’t vomit it back up. That’s why you have to give it to her before the feeding.”

“Well, what if she doesn’t grow out of it?” In that case, Catherine will be dependent upon medication for the rest of her life. The doctor further informed me that she too was born with gastro reflux and is still taking medicine for the condition.

Her statement was like lightning in my brain. If the doctor can’t even treat herself for gastro reflux, how can she help my daughter? Seeing the futility of my path, I turned to my dad for help.

My dad advised me to stop all western drugs and to give her an herbal prescription 3 times a day. Administering medicine 3 times instead of 14 times a day to Catherine was a godsend to me. Even though it sounded too good to be true, I figured that I could still give Zantac to Catherine if she didn’t get better or continued to vomit.

After one month of herbs 3 times a day, Catherine vomited less and less. To test Catherine, I let her cry to see if she would vomit. She didn’t, so I knew she was getting better. After another month of herbal medicine, Catherine was able to wear less clothing without getting a runny nose, coughing, or vomiting. After 3 months of herbal formulas, she stopped having episodes of gastro reflux and seizure. Catherine will enjoy a normal, healthy life.

Because of Catherine’s dramatic recovery, I was sold on Chinese medicine and asked my dad to treat me. I fainted very easily, especially during the winter. After a few months of herbal formulas, I have never fainted again.

I started to have time to think and tried to understand why a piece of lemon helps to relax the muscles and stop a seizure. Lemon is a common citrus, yet it has magical powers that we don’t understand and underestimate. I wanted to learn more and find answers, so I decided to go to China which has a long history of herbal medicine. I went to TCM schools in China and Hong Kong and worked in the TCM hospitals to learn from the best herbal doctors in the world.

When I was there, I knew one day I would want to become an herbalist, but how can I get a steady supply of high-quality herbs. My dad and I backpacked across China and visited many farmlands. We interviewed farmers to grow herbs for us. Our products are used with the highest quality herbs that have been harvested at the height of their potency. They are substantially more expensive than less potent herbs that were harvested in the pre- or post-season.

After I came back to the United State, I worked with my dad and learned from his experiences and studied the formulas that our ancestors passed down. What I have been through helped me to understand the importance of health. Without health, don’t even talk about career, beauty, education, freedom, etc. I now have worked with many families who have suffered as I have. Their endearing appreciation drives me to work harder.

Our namesake "Silkie" is a Chinese breed of chicken that is well known for its calm and friendly temperament. They are gentle and caring and make wonderful mothers. A Silkie loves nothing more than brooding a cluster of eggs, whether they are hers or not, even if they are "duck eggs". We share the same outlook and care for our clients the same way we care for our own family.
