Key Ingredients in After Stroke (B) – Blood Stagnation Formula

The “B” in After Stroke (B) Formula refers to a Blood Stagnation (Blood Stasis) pattern, which is traditionally associated within the Silkie Herbs® herbal system with weakness or facial imbalance affecting the left side. In comparison, After Stroke (M) Formula is intended for Mucus/Phlegm patterns traditionally associated with the right side.

After Stroke (B) Formula combines herbs selected according to TCM principles to tonify Qi, nourish and invigorate Blood, dispel Blood Stasis, open the channels and collaterals, and support the nourishment and healthy movement of the facial muscles.

Cimicifuga Rhizome (Sheng Ma)

Sheng Ma is traditionally used in Chinese herbal practice to raise clear Yang Qi and guide it toward the upper body. Within this formula, it supports the proper movement of Qi and helps direct the formula’s traditional actions toward the head and facial channels.

Rhodiola Root (Hong Jing Tian)

Hong Jing Tian is traditionally used to tonify Qi, invigorate Blood, and support constitutional strength. It is commonly included when fatigue, weakness, Qi deficiency, or insufficient movement of Qi and Blood are part of the underlying TCM pattern.

Safflower Flower (Hong Hua)

Hong Hua is traditionally used to invigorate Blood, dispel Blood Stasis, and open the channels and collaterals. It supports the unobstructed movement of Blood and helps maintain proper nourishment of the facial muscles and channels.

Chinese Angelica Root (Dang Gui)

Dang Gui is traditionally used to nourish and invigorate Blood. Its ability to both nourish and move Blood makes it valuable when Blood deficiency occurs together with Blood Stasis or when the muscles and channels are not receiving sufficient nourishment.

Lobed Kudzuvine Root (Ge Gen)

Ge Gen is traditionally used to relax the muscle layer, raise clear Yang Qi, and generate body fluids. It is commonly included in traditional formulas involving tightness or restricted movement affecting the neck, shoulders, head, or facial area.

Licorice Root (Gan Cao)

Gan Cao is traditionally used to tonify Spleen Qi, support digestive harmony, moderate the properties of other herbs, and harmonize the complete formula. In TCM, supporting the Spleen also helps maintain the production of Qi and Blood.
