What Is Cold Hands and Feet Supplement?

Cold Hands and Feet Supplement is a traditional Chinese herbal formula designed to support healthy circulation, warm the body's internal energy, promote peripheral circulation, support healthy blood flow to the hands and feet, and help maintain overall warmth, comfort, and vitality.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), cold hands and feet are often associated with imbalances involving Kidney Yang, Spleen Yang, Blood circulation, and the body's warming energy. The Yang energy acts as the body's internal furnace, helping to warm the organs, circulate Blood and Qi, and maintain healthy circulation throughout the extremities. When Yang energy becomes weakened or circulation becomes impaired, individuals may experience persistently cold hands, cold feet, sensitivity to cold temperatures, fatigue, low energy, poor circulation, and an overall feeling of being cold.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, internal cold may develop when Kidney Yang and Spleen Yang become deficient, reducing the body's ability to generate warmth and properly circulate Blood and Qi to the hands and feet. Some individuals may also experience cold sensations due to poor circulation, stagnation, weakened vitality, or an inability to distribute warmth throughout the body.

Cold Hands and Feet Supplement is an empirical herbal blend traditionally used to support healthy circulation, warm internal Yang energy, promote healthy blood flow, support peripheral circulation, and help maintain warmth and comfort in the hands, feet, and entire body. This formula is commonly chosen by individuals seeking support for cold hands, cold feet, poor circulation, sensitivity to cold weather, low energy, and long-term circulatory wellness.*

This formula is traditionally used to support healthy circulation to the hands, feet, fingers, and toes while promoting warmth, comfort, and improved blood flow throughout the extremities.

Helps Warm the Body's Yang Energy*

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yang energy is responsible for warmth, vitality, circulation, and metabolic activity. This formula is traditionally used to help warm and support Yang energy, particularly when individuals experience chronic coldness, sensitivity to cold temperatures, or a persistent feeling of internal cold.

Supports Healthy Blood Vessel Function and Circulation*

Healthy circulation depends on the smooth movement of Qi and Blood throughout the body. This formula is traditionally used to support healthy blood vessel function, promote circulation, and help deliver nourishment to the hands, feet, muscles, and connective tissues.

Traditionally Used to Warm Cold Hands and Cold Feet*

Many individuals experience chronically cold fingers, cold toes, cold feet, or cold hands even in mild temperatures. This formula is traditionally used to support warmth in the extremities and help maintain comfortable circulation throughout the body.

Helps Maintain Comfort Associated with Cold-Induced Numbness and Tingling*

Reduced circulation and internal cold patterns may contribute to occasional numbness, tingling, or reduced sensation in the hands and feet. This formula is traditionally used to support circulation and promote greater comfort in the extremities.

Many individuals notice worsening symptoms during winter, cold temperatures, windy conditions, or seasonal transitions. This formula is traditionally used to support the body's ability to maintain warmth and circulation during colder environmental conditions.

Common Signs You May Need Cold Hands and Feet Supplement

This formula is most appropriate for patterns associated with internal cold, reduced circulation, Kidney Yang deficiency, Spleen Yang deficiency, and cold extremities according to Traditional Chinese herbal principles. Different individuals may experience different symptoms, such as:

Cold Hands and Cold Feet

Many individuals experience persistently cold hands, cold feet, cold fingers, or cold toes regardless of room temperature. Symptoms may be present throughout the year or become significantly worse during colder weather and seasonal transitions.

Poor Circulation to the Hands and Feet

Reduced circulation may contribute to cold extremities, delayed warming after cold exposure, decreased comfort in the fingers and toes, and a general feeling that blood flow is not reaching the outer areas of the body efficiently.

Cold Sensations in the Fingers and Toes

Some individuals experience recurring cold sensations that primarily affect the fingertips, fingers, toes, or feet. These symptoms may occur indoors, outdoors, during cold weather, or even when others feel comfortable.

Numbness, Tingling, or Reduced Sensation in the Extremities

Poor circulation and internal cold patterns may contribute to occasional numbness, tingling sensations, pins-and-needles feelings, or reduced sensation in the hands, fingers, feet, or toes.

Sensitivity to Cold Temperatures

Individuals may become uncomfortable quickly when exposed to cold weather, air conditioning, wind, rain, or cooler environments. They often require extra layers of clothing and may struggle to stay warm compared to others.

Hands and Feet That Take a Long Time to Warm Up

After exposure to cold temperatures, the hands and feet may remain cold for extended periods. Individuals often report difficulty restoring warmth even when indoors or under blankets.

Coldness Accompanied by Fatigue and Low Energy

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, chronic coldness is often associated with reduced Yang energy. Individuals may experience fatigue, low stamina, exhaustion, reduced motivation, and difficulty maintaining physical energy throughout the day.

Overall Chilled Feeling Throughout the Body

Some individuals experience a persistent sensation of feeling cold, chilled, or unable to stay warm. This may affect the entire body rather than only the hands and feet and may occur regardless of environmental temperature.

Discomfort That Worsens During Winter or Cold Weather

Symptoms may become more noticeable during winter months, rainy weather, cold climates, windy conditions, or seasonal transitions when the body's warming energy is challenged by external cold influences.

Cold-Related Stiffness in the Fingers, Hands, Toes, or Feet

Internal cold patterns may contribute to stiffness, tightness, reduced flexibility, or discomfort affecting the small joints of the hands and feet, particularly during cold weather or periods of inactivity.

Muscle Tightness or Spasms Associated with Cold Exposure

Some individuals notice occasional muscle tightness, spasms, cramping sensations, or discomfort that becomes more noticeable during cold weather, after exposure to cold environments, or when circulation is reduced.

Digestive Weakness Accompanied by Cold Patterns

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, weakened Spleen Yang may contribute to poor digestion, reduced appetite, abdominal coldness, low energy, and difficulty generating adequate warmth throughout the body.

Low Vitality and Reduced Physical Endurance

Individuals with long-standing cold patterns often report reduced vitality, poor stamina, fatigue, lack of motivation, and difficulty maintaining consistent energy levels during work, exercise, or routine daily activities.

Hunched Posture or Seeking Warmth Frequently

Many individuals naturally seek warm drinks, heated blankets, hot showers, warm environments, or adopt protective postures to conserve warmth when experiencing chronic internal cold patterns.

Individuals with more complex, chronic, recurring, or long-standing cold circulation patterns may benefit from combining this formula with additional herbal support to address underlying imbalances and promote long-term warmth, circulation, vitality, and overall wellness.

Diet and Lifestyle Tips for Cold Hands and Feet

According to traditional Chinese herbal principles, healthy circulation and warmth depend on strong Yang energy, proper digestion, balanced Blood flow, and healthy Qi movement throughout the body. Daily habits that support these functions may help promote long-term circulation, comfort, and vitality.

For best results:

  • Eat regular, balanced meals on a consistent schedule
  • Prioritize warm, freshly prepared foods over excessive cold or raw foods
  • Stay physically active with regular walking, stretching, Tai Chi, Qigong, yoga, or other forms of movement
  • Keep the hands, feet, and lower back warm, especially during cold weather
  • Stay well hydrated with warm or room-temperature beverages
  • Get adequate sleep and maintain a consistent sleep routine
  • Manage stress through relaxation, meditation, deep breathing, or other healthy practices
  • Spend time outdoors regularly and maintain an active lifestyle
  • Support healthy digestion, as nutrient absorption plays an important role in energy and circulation

To support healthy circulation and warmth, it is recommended to limit:

  • Excessive cold foods and iced beverages
  • Highly processed foods
  • Excess sugar and sugary beverages
  • Deep-fried, greasy, or heavily processed foods
  • Excess alcohol consumption
  • Smoking and tobacco products
  • Frequent late-night meals
  • Prolonged inactivity or sitting for extended periods

Foods traditionally considered supportive for circulation and warmth include warm soups, bone broth, ginger, cinnamon, dates, lamb, cooked vegetables, whole grains, and other nourishing foods that support Qi, Blood, and Yang energy.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, healthy digestion is considered an important foundation for circulation because the Spleen helps transform food into Qi and Blood, which nourish the body and help maintain warmth in the hands, feet, and extremities.

Consistent nutrition, quality sleep, regular exercise, stress management, and proper digestive health are important foundations for supporting healthy circulation, warm hands and feet, energy, and long-term vitality.

A Proven, Research-Backed Cold Hands and Feet Formula

Modern research on traditional herbs commonly used in warming and circulation-support formulas, particularly Cassia Twig (Gui Zhi), Angelica Root (Dang Gui), Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang), and Astragalus (Huang Qi), has explored their effects on circulation, vascular function, thermoregulation, antioxidant activity, and overall wellness. Studies published in journals such as Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Frontiers in Pharmacology, and Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy have investigated how these traditional herbs support healthy blood flow, peripheral circulation, and physiological balance.

Research on Angelica Root (Dang Gui) has examined its role in supporting healthy circulation and vascular function, while studies involving Cassia Twig (Gui Zhi) and Dried Ginger (Gan Jiang) have explored their traditional warming properties and influence on circulation and blood vessel function. Astragalus (Huang Qi) has also been studied for its effects on circulation, vitality, and overall physiological resilience.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, cold hands and feet are often associated with insufficient Yang energy, reduced circulation of Qi and Blood, or an inability of the body's warming functions to reach the extremities. Traditional warming herbal formulas are designed to support Yang Qi, nourish Blood, promote healthy circulation, and help maintain warmth and comfort throughout the body.

Can Chronic Diarrhea Support be used for diarrhea that occurs anytime during the day or night?

Yes. Chronic Diarrhea Support is commonly selected by individuals experiencing diarrhea that may occur during the day, at night, early in the morning, after meals, or at unpredictable times. Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses on addressing the underlying digestive imbalance associated with chronic bowel irregularity.

Many individuals choose to use Chronic Diarrhea Support during periods of active digestive recovery. Others may use it as part of an ongoing wellness routine to support digestive strength, bowel regularity, nutrient absorption, and overall gastrointestinal health.

What makes Silkie Herbs Chronic Diarrhea Support different?

Silkie Herbs formulas are rooted in five generations of traditional herbal practice. Each formula is based on classical Traditional Chinese Medicine principles and uses carefully selected medicinal herbs prepared as traditional honey-bound herbal pills. We do not use capsules, compressed tablets, artificial fillers, synthetic binders, or unnecessary additives. Every batch is manufactured in the United States and undergoes rigorous quality testing to support consistency, purity, and authenticity.

Why does Traditional Chinese Medicine focus on the Spleen and Kidneys for chronic diarrhea?

Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches that the Spleen and Kidneys play essential roles in digestion and fluid regulation. The Spleen transforms food into Qi and nourishment, while the Kidneys provide the warming energy necessary for healthy digestive function. When these systems become weakened, chronic diarrhea and digestive imbalance may occur.

Can poor digestion affect nutrient absorption?

Yes. Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes that weakened digestive function may reduce the body's ability to properly transform and absorb nutrients from food. Supporting digestive strength may help promote healthy energy production, vitality, and overall wellness.

Can Chronic Diarrhea Support be taken daily?

Many individuals choose to take Chronic Diarrhea Support daily during periods of digestive recovery. Consistent use is often preferred when supporting digestive strength, intestinal health, bowel regularity, and long-term digestive wellness according to Traditional Chinese Medicine principles.

What foods help support healthy digestion?

Many practitioners recommend a balanced diet that includes warm cooked foods, soups, stews, cooked vegetables, quality protein, adequate hydration, and regular meals. Traditional Chinese Medicine often emphasizes avoiding excessive cold foods, iced drinks, and highly processed foods when supporting digestive health.

Why are Silkie Herbs formulas made as honey-bound pills?

Silkie Herbs uses traditional honey-bound herbal pills rather than capsules or compressed tablets. Pure honey acts as a natural binding agent and has traditionally been used in Chinese herbal medicine to harmonize formulas and support digestion. This method allows us to avoid many of the synthetic fillers, binders, lubricants, and flow agents commonly found in modern supplements.

Are Silkie Herbs formulas third-party tested?

Yes. Silkie Herbs performs testing throughout the production process, from raw herb verification to finished product testing. This includes screening for identity, purity, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contaminants to help ensure quality and consistency.

Where are Silkie Herbs products made?

Silkie Herbs formulas are manufactured and packaged in the United States. Each formula is produced under strict quality standards while following traditional Chinese herbal principles and preparation methods.

What makes traditional Chinese herbal formulas different from single-herb supplements?

Traditional Chinese herbal formulas are carefully balanced combinations of herbs designed to work together according to classical TCM principles. Rather than relying on a single ingredient, each herb serves a specific role within the formula to promote balance, harmony, and overall wellness.

Why does Silkie Herbs use traditional herbal preparation methods?

Many herbs are traditionally processed using methods known as Pao Zhi (炮製), which may include roasting, steaming, honey-frying, wine-frying, fermenting, or aging. These preparation methods have been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine to refine the properties of herbs and support their traditional functions.

100% Natural

Our herbal supplements are made with natural honey as the binder. Honey can support the lungs, intestine, spleen, and stomach; It works as a natural preservative with antibacterial and healing properties. Unlike other herbal supplement companies that use starch, magnesium, and other chemical substances as binders for their supplements, we only use 100% honey. We also avoid using vegetable capsules because they require chemical components to form the capsule shape.

Peak Harvest Herbs

The herbs in our herbal pill blends are harvested at the height of their potency and they are substantially more expensive than less potent herbs that were harvested in the pre-or post-season, but in our view, there is no substitute for premium quality.

Ann's Story

Here's my story.

If you feel skeptical or unsure of Chinese herbal remedies, I could hardly blame you. I wasn't a believer either until my daughter grew very sick and my father (the 4th generation herbalist) helped her get better with herbs.

I was born into a family of herbalists. My father, my grandfather, my great-grandfather, great-great grandfather were all herbalists. I represent the 5th generation in this long lineage dating back to Imperial China.

When I was three or four years old, I started to learn herbal songs and how to identify herbs. As I got older, I was taught how to process the herbs while working in my dad’s clinic in Vietnam. After we immigrated to the United States, my dad asked me if I wanted to pursue a career in TCM as an herbalist or acupuncturist. I said, “No, just leave me alone, Dad. I will find something I enjoy doing for work.” So, he left me alone to find my own way.

I wanted nothing to do with herbal medicine until I gave birth to my second daughter, Catherine, who was born with severe gastric reflux. When Catherine was 10 days old, I had to take her to the ER for IV injections into her little hand because she couldn’t keep milk down. Besides vomiting, she also was having diarrhea. Catherine was losing nutrition from both ends, so her tiny body was shrinking. At that time my dad warned me, “She needs to be treated with herbal medicine, otherwise she will have seizures later on.” I didn’t fully understand what my dad was talking about, so I ignored him.

My daughter got so ill that she could only take half an ounce of milk per hour. Before feeding her, I would use a syringe and shoot Zantac into her mouth to lessen the vomiting. As time passed, she needed milk more often, and consequently more Zantac. By the time Catherine was 8 months old, she needed to be fed and medicated 11 times a day.

I could hardly sleep, eat, shower or rest. Even at night, I had to drape my daughter over my shoulder for her to sleep. If I put Catherine down, she would vomit. I barely had time to squeeze in a 5-minute shower once or twice a week for myself. I was exhausted, but what could I do? I had to care for my daughter and do my best to survive each day with the hope that she would get better or at the very least her condition would not worsen.

Catherine had to wear a turtleneck with two sweaters along with a baby cap and scarf to be outside during the heat of summer, even when temperatures were 100 plus degrees. If I didn’t cover her up, she would have a runny nose, cough, and non stop vomiting. How will she be able to go to school or anywhere with air conditioning?

One day we went to a Vietnamese pho restaurant. After I set Catherine down into the high-chair, I turned around and adjusted my chair. Then I heard a woman’s shout, “Look at her!” I looked in the direction she pointed. It was Catherine…her eyes rolled up and her entire body stiff and shaking with fluid coming out of her mouth. Someone said, “Squeeze some lemon into her mouth.” I did it without hesitating and Catherine’s body relaxed.

We rushed her to the ER. For 3 days she was in the NICU where they monitored her brain. The doctors told me I was lucky because my daughter’s seizure didn’t last for more than 3 minutes which would have damaged her brain. After that I always carried a piece of lemon because I had no idea when my baby girl might have another seizure.

The seizures started to come weekly, so the doctor prescribed anti-seizure medication. Catherine wasn’t even 1 year of age, and already she was taking Zantac 11 times plus anti-seizure medicine 3 times a day. It was nearly impossible to administer the anti-seizure medicine because whenever I took out the syringe, she would cry and start vomiting.

I took Catherine to see a specialist at CHOC. I asked, “Doctor, have you ever seen any infant with this condition get well?” The doctor replied, “It depends. Some will grow out of it, but some don’t. If they don’t, then they will have to take medication for the rest of their life.”

“What do you mean by grow out of it?” The doctor explained that Catherine might get better by herself as she got older.

My mind was racing. “All this time the prescribed medication has not been treating her stomach?” The doctor said, “No, it only helps to guide the food down, so she won’t vomit it back up. That’s why you have to give it to her before the feeding.”

“Well, what if she doesn’t grow out of it?” In that case, Catherine will be dependent upon medication for the rest of her life. The doctor further informed me that she too was born with gastro reflux and is still taking medicine for the condition.

Her statement was like lightning in my brain. If the doctor can’t even treat herself for gastro reflux, how can she help my daughter? Seeing the futility of my path, I turned to my dad for help.

My dad advised me to stop all western drugs and to give her an herbal prescription 3 times a day. Administering medicine 3 times instead of 14 times a day to Catherine was a godsend to me. Even though it sounded too good to be true, I figured that I could still give Zantac to Catherine if she didn’t get better or continued to vomit.

After one month of herbs 3 times a day, Catherine vomited less and less. To test Catherine, I let her cry to see if she would vomit. She didn’t, so I knew she was getting better. After another month of herbal medicine, Catherine was able to wear less clothing without getting a runny nose, coughing, or vomiting. After 3 months of herbal formulas, she stopped having episodes of gastro reflux and seizure. Catherine will enjoy a normal, healthy life.

Because of Catherine’s dramatic recovery, I was sold on Chinese medicine and asked my dad to treat me. I fainted very easily, especially during the winter. After a few months of herbal formulas, I have never fainted again.

I started to have time to think and tried to understand why a piece of lemon helps to relax the muscles and stop a seizure. Lemon is a common citrus, yet it has magical powers that we don’t understand and underestimate. I wanted to learn more and find answers, so I decided to go to China which has a long history of herbal medicine. I went to TCM schools in China and Hong Kong and worked in the TCM hospitals to learn from the best herbal doctors in the world.

When I was there, I knew one day I would want to become an herbalist, but how can I get a steady supply of high-quality herbs. My dad and I backpacked across China and visited many farmlands. We interviewed farmers to grow herbs for us. Our products are used with the highest quality herbs that have been harvested at the height of their potency. They are substantially more expensive than less potent herbs that were harvested in the pre- or post-season.

After I came back to the United State, I worked with my dad and learned from his experiences and studied the formulas that our ancestors passed down. What I have been through helped me to understand the importance of health. Without health, don’t even talk about career, beauty, education, freedom, etc. I now have worked with many families who have suffered as I have. Their endearing appreciation drives me to work harder.

Our namesake "Silkie" is a Chinese breed of chicken that is well known for its calm and friendly temperament. They are gentle and caring and make wonderful mothers. A Silkie loves nothing more than brooding a cluster of eggs, whether they are hers or not, even if they are "duck eggs". We share the same outlook and care for our clients the same way we care for our own family.
