Diet & Prevention

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Spleen and Stomach work together to transform food into Qi (energy), Blood, and body fluids. Supporting digestive health begins with consistent eating habits and food choices that are easy for the body to process.

Eat regular meals at consistent times each day and avoid skipping meals or overeating. It is best to stop eating when you feel comfortably satisfied rather than completely full, as overeating may place additional strain on digestion.

Choose warm, cooked, and easily digested foods whenever possible. Foods traditionally recommended for supporting the Spleen include rice, oats, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, pumpkin, cooked leafy greens, lentils, chicken, turkey, and nourishing broths. Warm meals are generally preferred over cold foods and beverages.

Limit foods that may burden digestion, including excessive sweets, sugary drinks, greasy or fried foods, highly processed foods, excessive dairy products, alcohol, and ice-cold beverages. Large amounts of raw fruits and vegetables may also be difficult for some individuals with weak digestion.

Healthy lifestyle habits are equally important. Take time to eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and avoid rushing through meals. Gentle daily movement such as walking can support healthy digestion and circulation.

Avoid lying down immediately after eating. Allow at least 2 to 3 hours between your last meal and bedtime. For optimal restorative sleep, aim to be in bed by 10:30 PM and maintain a regular sleep schedule whenever possible.

Supporting digestion through balanced meals, proper rest, and healthy daily habits can help promote the body's natural ability to maintain energy, nutrient absorption, and overall wellness.
