FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Blood Builder Herbal Broth?
Blood Builder Herbal Broth is a traditional Chinese herbal soup blend designed to nourish Qi and Blood, strengthen the Spleen, nourish Yin and body fluids, support the Lungs, and promote overall strength and vitality. It is prepared as a slow-simmered herbal broth with your choice of protein or broth base.
What is Blood Builder Herbal Broth traditionally used for?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Blood Builder Herbal Broth is traditionally used to nourish Qi and Blood, strengthen the Spleen, support healthy energy and stamina, nourish Yin and body fluids, and replenish the body during periods of fatigue, weakness, or physical depletion.
How does Traditional Chinese Medicine view Qi and Blood deficiency?
In TCM, the Spleen helps transform food and nutrients into Qi and Blood. When the body is depleted or Spleen function becomes weak, a person may experience fatigue, weakness, low stamina, poor appetite, pale complexion, occasional dizziness, or a general feeling of being run down. Nourishing foods and herbs are traditionally used to help rebuild and maintain Qi and Blood.
How is this different from other Qi and Blood tonics?
Many traditional Qi and Blood tonics contain herbs that are predominantly warming. Blood Builder Herbal Broth is formulated with a balance of nourishing, warming, cooling, and fluid-supporting herbs. This makes the formula more balanced for regular nutritional support, including for individuals who tend to experience Heat or dryness.
Why do the herbs in my Blood Builder pack sometimes look different?
The herbal ingredients may change according to the season. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the body's needs can shift with changes in temperature, weather, and environment. Silkie Herbs adjusts the herbal combination seasonally while maintaining the intended purpose of nourishing Qi and Blood, supporting the Spleen, Yin, and body fluids, and maintaining overall balance.
What herbs are used in Blood Builder Herbal Broth?
The formula may include Angelica Root, Rehmannia Root, Prepared Rehmannia Root, Codonopsis Root, Wolfberry Root Bark, Astragalus Root, Poria, Chinese Yam, Polygonatum Rhizome, Ophiopogon Root, White Peony Root, Licorice Root, Cinnamon Bark, and Anemarrhena Rhizome. Because the blend is seasonally adjusted, ingredients may vary.
What protein should I use with Blood Builder Herbal Broth?
The broth can be prepared with Silkie chicken, regular chicken, pork bones, beef bones, or lamb bones depending on your body constitution and the season. Vegetarian and pescatarian preparation options may also be used. Your Silkie preparation guide provides different traditional protein choices; for example, Silkie chicken is suitable for most body types, while beef and lamb are especially suited to winter. Do I have to use Silkie chicken?
No. Although Silkie chicken is an excellent traditional choice for a nourishing herbal broth, you may choose another appropriate broth base according to your body constitution, dietary preference, and season.
How do I prepare Blood Builder Herbal Broth?
Rinse the herbal pack before use and prepare your selected protein or bones. When using bones, parboiling them first helps produce a clearer broth. Combine the prepared ingredients with water and slowly simmer the herbal broth. Your traditional preparation guide recommends a long simmer of approximately 10 hours. Preparation For Herbal Broth
How much Blood Builder Herbal Broth should I drink?
Approximately 16 oz. of warmed broth may be enjoyed at a time. Your preparation guide recommends drinking the broth in the morning or afternoon. Preparation For Herbal Broth
How should I store the finished herbal broth?
After cooking, portion the hot broth into clean, heat-safe glass jars and seal the lids. Allow the jars to cool and then refrigerate them. When ready to drink, remove one jar at a time and thoroughly reheat the broth before drinking. The broth should remain refrigerated and should not be treated as shelf-stable.
Can Blood Builder Herbal Broth be taken regularly?
Blood Builder Herbal Broth is formulated to provide balanced nutritional and traditional herbal support rather than relying only on strongly warming Qi and Blood tonics. How often it is used should depend on your individual constitution, current needs, diet, and season.
Who should not drink Blood Builder Herbal Broth?
Do not consume Blood Builder Herbal Broth while experiencing a cold, flu, runny nose, or fever. Keep out of reach of children and use only as directed. If discomfort, irritation, or an unexpected reaction occurs, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider.
Is Blood Builder Herbal Broth the same as taking herbal pills?
No. Blood Builder Herbal Broth is prepared as a traditional herbal food broth and is intended to combine Chinese herbs with nourishing foods. It provides a different experience from concentrated herbal pills and can be incorporated into a broader TCM food-therapy and wellness routine.
